• Emulate Odin

Our high god, Odin, won the runes and poetry through nine nights on the world tree. You've won the runes through my American Rune Writing course. Now win poetry, the other supreme tool for making English sacred again.

  • Runes & Poetry

In this course, the American Futharch serves as the guide to the sounds of the language and the alliterative key to genuine heathen poetry—restoring the ancient connection between runes and poetry.

  • Authentic Heathen Poetry

Learn to write traditional heathen alliterative poetry in your native Modern English, the kind that the ancient skalds and runemasters composed in their native tongues.

Important Details about the Course

  • This course uses the revolutionary American Futharch as the guide to the sounds of the poetry. It's very highly recommended you take Eirik's American Rune Writing course before or with this one.

  • This isn't merely a course for learning cool things—it's a course for doing cool things, namely writing authentic heathen alliterative poetry in Modern English.

  • You can enroll at anytime and take the course at your own pace. It's always available and open, and not a "cohort course" like some of my other offerings.

  • Plenty of exercises to practice with and test your learning. An answer key is included in the course.

  • Includes online discussion board for each lesson where you can interact with the instructor and other students.

Eirik Westcoat

Eirik Westcoat is a Master in the Rune-Gild and a long-time poet in traditional skaldic alliterative meters. He holds a PhD from the University of Iceland with a dissertation on kraftaskalds, who are poets in post-medieval Icelandic folktales who do magic through improvised poetry. Eirik’s other research interests include mythology, Old Norse religion, runes, magic, and esotericism. He has a blog as “The Skaldic Eagle” and several books of heathen poetry in print. These include his Viking Poetry for Heathen Rites (2017) and Eagle’s Mead (2019), as well as the anthology Odin’s Brew: Voices from the Heathen Northeast (2019) featuring nine creative writers and artists from the East Coast Thing community, which he co-edited with Ned Bates.
